Getting to Madrid

Madrid is at the center of Spain's transport network, so getting here is easy wherever you're coming from. The venue is about a 15-minute walk from the Estación Sur bus station and from Atocha, and very close to the Méndez Álvaro and Delicias Cercanías stations, so if you come by train or bus, you arrive almost at the door.

By train

Madrid has two major high-speed rail stations:

  • Puerta de Atocha – Almudena Grandes: the closest to the venue (about a 15–20 minute walk, or one Cercanías stop). It serves trains from Andalusia, the Valencia region, Catalonia/Aragon and some other routes.
  • Chamartín – Clara Campoamor: in the north of the city. It serves trains from the north and northwest (Galicia, Asturias, Castile and León, the Basque Country…) and some other routes. From here, Cercanías line C-10 takes you straight to Méndez Álvaro or Delicias, next to the venue.

Three high-speed operators run in Spain: Renfe (AVE, Avlo and Alvia), Iryo and Ouigo. Compare prices: on many routes the difference is big if you book in advance.

Tip: Renfe AVE and long-distance tickets usually include a free Cercanías trip (the "Combinado Cercanías" option) to get from the station to any other Cercanías station in Madrid. Check your ticket.

By plane

Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD) has direct flights from almost everywhere in Spain, Europe and Latin America. Options to get to the venue:

Option Route Approx. price Notes
Metro Line 8 (pink) to Nuevos Ministerios → Line 6 (circular) to Méndez Álvaro €1.50–2 + €3 airport supplement From all 4 terminals. ~45–50 min.
Cercanías From T4: line C-1 to Chamartín → line C-10 to Méndez Álvaro or Delicias €2.60 T4 only. No airport supplement. Free with a Renfe Combinado Cercanías ticket.

Taxi Straight to the venue €33 flat fare Flat fare for destinations inside the M-30.

If your flight lands at T4 and you have a Renfe ticket with Combinado Cercanías, the train is the cheapest option.

By bus

Estación Sur (Méndez Álvaro) is Madrid's main long-distance bus station and is about a 15-minute walk from the venue. Companies such as Alsa, Avanza and many more stop here.

Some lines from the north and east arrive at the Avenida de América transport hub. From there, take the metro to the venue (about 25–30 minutes).

By car

Madrid is at the center of Spain's radial highways (A-1 to A-6) and the M-30 and M-40 ring roads. The venue is inside the M-30, near the southern interchange.

Before driving in, keep in mind:

  • Low Emission Zone (ZBE): vehicles without a DGT environmental label cannot drive anywhere within the city of Madrid (€200 fine). There are extra restrictions in the Centro district (vehicles with a B or C label may only enter to park in a car park), but the venue is outside that zone, in Arganzuela.
  • On-street parking (SER): paid in almost all of the area inside the M-30, with a maximum time limit for visitors. To leave your car for several days, use a public car park or your hotel's.
  • Our recommendation: if you can, come by train or bus and get around by public transport.

The nearest public car parks are the one at Hotel Rafael Atocha (entrance on Calle de Méndez Álvaro, 32A; open 24 hours; about a 3-minute walk) and the one at Estación Sur (Calle de Méndez Álvaro, 83; from 6:30 to 1:30). Expect to pay €20–30 per day; booking in advance through apps like Parclick or ElParking is usually cheaper.
